REBATES OF MUNICIPAL ELECTRICITY AND GAS TAXES

Wallet with Money

HERE’S ANOTHER WAY TO PUT A LITTLE MONEY BACK INTO YOUR WALLET. If you do not qualify for this program, maybe a friend or relative would be eligible. Pass it on!

The information in this article applies to residents of the City of Aurora. Check to see if your city has a similar program.
Now through December 1, 2016, the City of Aurora will issue rebates of municipal electricity and gas use taxes to seniors (age 65 as of January 1, 2015) and disabled persons during 2015 (i.e., taxes paid to the city through utility bills). The City of Aurora sends a cardboard mailer to Aurora residents in March or early April to alert residents to the program. The mailer also contains an application form and detailed instructions for completing the form and submitting supporting documentation.

The standard rebate is $25.00 for the electricity taxes plus $25.00 for the gas taxes for a total of $50.00.

Use a copy of your last electricity bill for December (e.g., Com Ed bill) as supporting documentation for the rebate for the electricity taxes. Use a copy of your last gas bill from December (e.g., Nicor bill) as supporting documentation for the gas taxes. Make copies of the two bills and the completed form to keep in your files. Mail the two bills and the completed form to your city hall. The address will be on the form.

START LOOKING AT YOUR MAIL MORE CAREFULLY. THIS MAILING LOOKS LIKE JUST ANOTHER PIECE OF JUNK MAIL. IN FACT, IT IS ADDRESSED TO POSTAL CUSTOMER. HOWEVER, THIS COULD BE AN EASY WAY TO GET A NICE REBATE. IT IS CERTAINLY WORTH YOUR TIME AND EFFORT.
